Nesting: 2 cream puff eggs on a frail platform of loose twigs in low bushes | Range: breeds in southwest US and southern Texas, winters south of border, small numbers in Florida |
Voice: drawn out booo-hooo ho-hooo or who cooks for you | Diet: fruit, waste grain from cultivated fields, cactus fruit, berries, acorns. Young fed crop milk, plus seeds after 4 days |
Notes: Gregarious, feeding in large flocks, especially after breeding; roosts in nesting trees, desert populations rely largely on cactus fruit for water. |
