Number 74 - February 2017

L.O.W. Annual Meeting Time

It’s that time of year again and our Annual Meeting of the Lake of the Woods Steam and Gas Engine Association has been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, located on Rocky Point RD (County RD 17), 6 miles North of Roosevelt. Note the day change, SATURDAY instead of Sunday.  It was decided at our last Annual Meeting to try having the Annual meeting on Saturday instead of Sunday.

As it is each year, and doesn’t seem to change much, we have a lot of business to discuss in preparation for this year’s show; election of directors, discussion of work that needs to be done, ideas to improve our show, along with good fellowship with old and/or new friends, and of course enjoy some good refreshments. Also bring along any of your friends who may be interested in exhibiting, playing with or just looking at any of the Old Tractors, Cars, Engines, Farm Equipment, and other Old Stuff that was used many years ago by our ancestors on the farm, home and etc. Perhaps we can encourage them to become members of our small, but great, organization.

Call Troy Comstock at 424-7455 or Steve LaDuke at 386-1302 or William Olson at 442-6381 for more information about our association and our show.

As far as Northern Minnesota goes, it has been, as somewhat predicted, a fairly mild winter, so far.  We’ve had a total of about 41 inches of snow so far, with 11 inches still on the ground at my place now. Where last year we had 20 inches of snowfall and 14 inches on the ground.  Our temperatures have been a bit milder than what we are accustomed to, with only about a week and a half of minus teens & twenties in early January then our January Thaw the latter part of the month.  The fishermen had to patiently or sometimes not so patiently wait for sufficiently thick ice on the lake to safely get started on their normal winter pastime of ice fishing again this year.

If you noticed, we had a change in the Kitchen Staff this last year.  Paige & Kayla Jeffrey offered to take over the Kitchen for the show, since the Eagles didn’t want to do so anymore.  Of course, Kayla & Paige recruited the help needed to operate the Snack Shack. I believe that most everything went well, particularly for the first year.  Now that they have some experience, they are ready to tackle it again this year.

Spread the news far and wide that we are planning on having a great show and lots of fun this year.

If you have an E-mail address, even if you think I may already have it, please E-mail it to me, because some have changed and are no longer valid. Include your phone number, as a lot of you have cell phones only, no land-line, so you are no longer listed in the book.
