Type: Perennial—“comes back” every year. Blooms second and successive years from expanding clumps. Easy.
Native to: Europe
Naturalized in: All 50 states and Canada.
Where to Grow it: All regions, except the following where it is prohibited: States of CO, IL, IN, KS, MO, MT, OH, WA, WV, WY, and Canada.
Bloom time and height: heaviest in early season, then on into fall, 1 to 3 ft.
Sun/Shade: full sun or light shade
How to Grow it: Plant in almost any soil in spring, summer or fall. This species competes well with grasses, and will tolerate dry or moist conditions. Can dominate a meadow.
Etc: This is the common roadside daisy which is one of our toughest perennial wildflowers. First spring after germination the season before, bloom is extremely early and very profuse. One of the first wild perennials to bloom in any meadow. For a similar species to use where ox-eye daisy is prohibited, see shasta daisy, C. maximum.
