Number 72 - February 2015

L.O.W. Annual Meeting Time

Itís that time of year again and our Annual Meeting of the Lake of the Woods Steam and Gas Engine Association has been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, located on Rocky Point RD (County RD 17), 6 miles North of Roosevelt.

As it is each year, and doesnít seem to change much, we have a lot of business to discuss in preparation for this yearís show; election of directors, discussion of work that needs to be done, ideas to improve our show, along with good fellowship with old and/or new friends, and of course enjoy some good refreshments. Also bring along any of your friends who may be interested in exhibiting, playing with or just looking at any of the Old Tractors, Cars, Engines, Farm Equipment, and other Old Stuff that was used many years ago by our ancestors on the farm, home and etc. Perhaps we can encourage them to become members of our small, but great, organization.

Call Troy Comstock at 424-7455 or Steve LaDuke at 386-1302 or William Olson at 442-6381 for more information about our association and our show.

It is with a note of sadness that we offer our condolences to the family of Clair Knight, who passed away on November 28, 2014. He was a heavy equipment operator, able to repair almost any type of equipment and was active in our show until declining health slowed him down. He will be missed by all who were privileged to know him.

If you may recall, we had quite a show last year, when it started to rain during the tractor parade and then decided to keep raining off and on, giving us around 2 to 3 inches of rain. I remember that I was stuck upon the Band Stand with the rain whipping all the way through from one side to the other, trying to cover & protect my sound equipment, but no way for me to keep dry.

There was water standing everywhere, we had 3 or more inches in the middle of our laundry display that had run in under the canopy. Arlene was there alone to take care of things, but did have the help of a couple of guests to somewhat alleviate the problem. I guess Iíll have to fill in that low spot a bit for this year.

But we did survive, the pork roast went on as usual, some people may have gone home because of the weather, but those who stayed did enjoy themselves despite the conditions. Since it was still wet on Sunday, we ran a shorter version of the tractor parade with the smaller tractors. Even though it was still a bit wet on Sunday, we still had a good time, being careful where we walked. We need to hope and wish for, and put in our order early for better weather this year.

If you have an E-mail address, even if you think I may already have it, please E-mail it to me, because some have changed and are no longer valid.
