Cobalt 227

Command Performer

The 227 does all things well. With 280 horsepower and classic Cobalt handling, the 227 will cruise all day on big water.  Then it will welcome guests to a twilight supper in a green cove.  Fully efficient in the use of space, the 227 performs in the manner of boats far bigger.  Amenities cluster in pockets of activity and comfort, most of all in the cuddy cabin where a Cobalt-exclusive sliding door shuts the world and its cares for a while away.

Leather is the fabric of choice in the cabin:  seats and headliner are supple and elegant, understated in this most luxurious of finishes.

The indirect lighting softens any mood, while a deck hatch with screen admits just the right amount of natural light before dark and a sweeping look at the stars just after.  A cabin control panel controls both cabin lighting.  Thick curtains with Velcro ensure privacy.

The cockpit is large and accessible, all convenience and comfort in an L-lounge configuration.  An ice chest waits with cold drinks all around.  The carpet is easily removable for cleaning.

A handy storage compartment waits by the walk-thru transom, as does a wet locker/second ice chest on the swim platform.  A concealed ladder (portside), brings swimmers safely out of the water.  With everyone aboard, an drop-in cushion extends the lounge across the walk-thru: even more guests to be seated in comfort and security -- and an impromptu sundeck to boot.

Back at the helm station, the captain consults instrumentation that’s historic Cobalt in its cleanliness, accuracy, and no-nonsense practicality.  The tilt leather steering wheel is all Cobalt as well, a standard feature for years, a legacy of three decades of attention to boat building detail.

There’s more detail in the careful placement of the 227’s entertainment packages: all electronics tucked safely away in the glove box with full remote control switched at the helm.  And, as always on a Cobalt, truly premium sound systems will crank some amps in optional packages that bring along subwoofers, CD players, and full remote stereo control just above waterline for swimmers.

The captain’s chairs merits particular attention this year.    A new next-generation Cobalt flip-lip, an articulated simplification that with one movement converts a conventional chair to a solid, comfortable perch above the windshield, the preferred position among captains in a hurry to have some fun.

The 227 carries on long-standing Cobalt benchmarks for quality of fiberglass construction: Kevlar™-reinforcement throughout the hand-laid hull, a composite transom to go with wood-free motor mounts and stringers in an integrally reinforced system that gives the 227 an unbeatable combination of strength, performance, and resistance to corrosion.

Altogether, the hull involves seven distinct layers of 1.5-ounce glass mat and 24-ounce woven roving in a signature Cobalt process called “Hydrolam.”  The result: superb consistency, and structural integrity that no other method of construction can match.  As with all boats bearing the familiar Cobalt logo mark, aluminum backing plates for all hardware are embedded in the fiberglass, and stainless braces solidify the windshield.

There’s more: a Kevlar/E-glass hybrid applied over the entire length of the keel, and chimes for impact resistance 10 times greater than conventional fiberglass’ at less than half the weight.  AME 1000 vinylester resins in the hull deck create superior strength and tensile elongation; they resist chemicals and water.

The industry-benchmark Cobalt warranty (10 years on the hull and deck, five years on the power train) guarantees the 227’s performance, of course.   Cobalt backs the 227 with the same confidence that applies to boats in the line for years.
